Update of Bluetongue and TB
As from July 5th the U.K. will be classed as a Bluetongue free zone(BTZ). This will mean vaccination against any strain of Bluetongue will no longer be permissible. Exports of goats will become somewhat easier to many countries. Importation will, by contrast, be a little more restricted.
In regard to TB, the Welsh Intensive Active Area Badger Cull Scheme has been put into abeyance pending a further review of the science involved. Compensation for goats tested positive for TB will now be payable in Wales.
In England no compensation has been agreed for goats slaughtered as TB reactors, although ex gratia payments may be made. Discussions continue with DEFRA on this matter and on possible testing regimes for goats. |
